Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 11, 2026

1. Overview

Crunchy-Sync is a free, open community tool that synchronizes Crunchyroll playback between friends. We value your privacy and collect as little data as possible.

2. Data We Collect

  • Username — A display name you choose (not linked to any account).
  • Room Data — Room ID, episode links, anime title, playback state and position, chosen language, queue entries, and recent chat messages. Room participants also exchange readiness, buffering signals, and reactions through the service.
  • IP Address — Used by the service to handle connections and apply rate limits. IP addresses are not included in room snapshots.
  • Page views — The website counts visits for statistics: the page (room links as /join/room or /watch/room, never with the room code), the referring page and the browser type. Instead of the IP address it stores a visitor key that changes every day; the IP address itself is never saved.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

  • No email addresses or personal accounts
  • No Crunchyroll credentials or login data
  • No cookies for CrunchySync room authentication
  • No third-party analytics or tracking scripts

4. Data Storage

Active room state is held in memory and saved in a private file on the synchronization server. The saved state includes episode and queue information, display names, playback position, up to 200 recent chat messages, and private reconnect credentials. This lets participants recover a room after a short connection interruption or server restart. Sessions expire after the reconnect window; rooms without active or reserved participants are removed from the current saved state. Page view statistics are stored separately as described above.

5. Browser Extension

The Crunchy-Sync browser extension stores your chosen username, room ID, active Crunchyroll tab reference, and a private reconnect credential in chrome.storage.local on your device. Room information and the reconnect credential are sent to the synchronization service to join or resume your session. Leaving a room clears the saved room and reconnect information; your display name remains available for your next visit. The extension accesses Crunchyroll pages to synchronize the player and communicate with the service.

6. Third-Party Services

Fonts are hosted with CrunchySync. Anime metadata and cover images use AniList. Optional GIF search and GIF images use Tenor; using those features may send search terms and image requests to that provider. Each participant watches video through their own Crunchyroll account. Room chat, queue entries, and display names are shared with other participants in the same room.

7. Managing Your Data

You can clear the extension's local data or uninstall it to remove information stored on your device. Leaving a room removes your active session, but does not immediately erase messages already shared with other participants. For privacy questions or requests concerning data held by the service, contact the project maintainer through Sophey.Vodka.

8. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
